Tiled to provide examples with soil homework

October 3, 2012

Recently, AppsGoneFree shared Tiled, a photo app. Since it was free I decided it couldn’t hurt to download it. (It is currently 99 cents but I think worth that price.)

Today, inspiration struck and I used it to create a visual to help my students understand what I expected with their homework assignment “Bring in a sandwich sized bag of dirt” (Don’t worry Ag friends, part of the lesson is coming to call it soil and understand why!)

Tiled provides 90 different frame templates to choose from. Once you select the one you want to use, you can insert pictures. Editing options allow you to flip, rotate, zoom in and out and even move the picture to a different tile if you change your mind about its location. There is a write option as well so some tiles can include wording. You are even able to add text to blocks you put photos in. You have the option of changing the font style, size and color. You can also change the background color and add from selected pictograms. You can even add background patterns.

When you are done with your project, you can save it to your Ipad picture role, email the picture or upload it to a variety of social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Tumble, Instagram, and Flickr)

This was just a quick journey into using it so I look forward to finding ways I can incorporate it into student learning.
